Rosa Eva Ristau

 

 

    Rosa Eva Ristau nee Leyendecker was born on January 20, 1916 to Albert and Truffeldine Knopp Leyendecker. She passed away Thursday May 8th at the age of 92 in the Knopp Healthcare and Rehab Center.

    Mrs. Ristau is survived by her daughter Jeanie Bel Mrs. Lorence a Crenwelge; daughter-in-law Shelia Mrs. Albert Ristau, sisters Telka Mrs. Edgar Usener, Odessa Mrs. Elgin Tatsch all of Fredericksburg, sister-in-law Evelyn Mrs. Adan E. Ristau Sr. of Houston, 6 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren.

    She is preceded in death by her Parents, her husband Arthur R. Ristau, son Albert W. Ristau, and son-in-law Lorence A. Crenwelge.

Services for Mrs. Ristau will be on Monday May 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Beckmann Funeral Home with Pastor David Priem officiating. Interment will follow at Der Stadt Friedhof.

    Visitation with the family will be on Sunday from 5pm-7pm in Beckmann Funeral Home.

Mrs Ristau will lie in state from 7am till 2pm on Monday in the Chapel of Beckmann Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church Building Fund or to the Albert Usener FFA Scholarship Fund or the charity of your choice.

 

Floyd “Bill” Jude

 

Floyd William “Bill” Jude of Fredericksburg passed away at home on Thursday morning surrounded by his family. Bill Jude is survived by his wife of 59 years Beth Jude. Daughter Donna Bastian and her husband John of Yorkville IL, Sons; Michael Jude and wife Kirstin of Austin TX, Patrick Jude and wife Tina of Austin TX, Thomas Jude and wife Lori of Austin TX, John Jude and wife Laura of Scottsdale AZ, Daughter-in-Law Beverly Jude of Dallas TX; Sister Shirley Brashear and husband Junie of Louisville KY.

15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Jude will be Saturday at 3p.m. in the Family Chapel at Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Mike Burdick officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Charity of your choice.

 

Henry A. Miller

 

Henry A. Miller passed away Wednesday May 7, 2008 at the age of 86 at Knopp Healthcare and Rehab Center. Mr. Miller is survived by his children Julia Rogers and her husband Bruce of Silver Spring Colorado, Catherine Carson and her Husband Bill of Ozona Texas, Henry A. “Hank” Miller II and wife Eva Reed of Cherry Spring Texas. In fulfillment of his wishes Mr. Miller will be cremated and a service will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at a date to be announced.

 

Socorro Bravo

 

 

Mrs. Socorro Bravo of Stonewall passed away on Sunday April 20, 2008 in a San Antonio hospital at the age of 72.

Mrs. Socorro Bravo is survived by her children Salvador Bravo of Stonewall, Maria Guadalupe Fonseca and her husband Miguel of Chicago Il, Elena Rodriguez of Ft Worth TX, Lourdes Morales and husband Frank of Kyle TX, Carmen Valle and Husband Josè Luis of Arandas, Mexico, Lucila Bravo of Stonewall and Irene Bravo of San Antonio TX and Brother Jose Maria Hernandez of Monterrey Mexico; Sisters, Maria del Refugio and her husband Victor of Arandas Mexico, Rosario Hernandez of Arandas Mexico, and  14 grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her Husband Jose Guadalupe Hernandez, sons Efrain and Martin Bravo, Brothers; Jesus Hernandez, Alvino Hernandez, Ramon Hernandez, Trinidad Hernandez; sisters Francisca Torres, and Maria Guadalupe Zuniga.

A Vigil service for Mrs. Bravo will be on Wednesday April 23rd  at 6:00p.m. in the chapel at Beckmann Funeral Home.

Mass of Resurrection will Thursday April 24th at 3:00 p.m. in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stonewall TX. Interment in Mexico will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the American Liver Foundation or the National Kidney Foundation.

 

 

Lucille I. Morris

 

 

Lucille Morris, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Thursday, April 17, at the age of 83.  She was born on September 14, 1924 in Stonewall to Richard Henry Immel and Hulda Meier Immel.  She was a graduate of Fredericksburg High School.  Lucille met her husband Herbert Morris on a blind date.  They fell in love and were married on June 25, 1949 at Trinity Lutheran.  Lucille loved to play basketball, first in high school and then later she played in basketball leagues in San Antonio.  She was also an excellent bowler, maintaining a 200 + average.  Lucille enjoyed working in her garden and taking care of her family.  She was a loving wife and mother and a very generous person.  She gave generously of her time to Trinity Lutheran Church along with helping Herbert with his Lion’s Club activities.  Lucille was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. 

 

Mrs. Morris is survived by her husband Herbert Morris of Fredericksburg, a daughter Rebecca Hornyak and husband William of Irving, 2 grandchildren, William L. Hornyak and wife Erin and Kristen Coney and husband David.  She is also survived by a sister, Irma Mecom and 2 nieces Carol Gutierrez and Catherine Parsons and husband Robert.  Lucille as preceded in death by a brother Herbert Immel.

 

Funeral services for Lucille Morris will be held on Tuesday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stonewall with Rev. Percy Smerek officiating.  Interment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Parsons, Edward Koonce, John Lindig, William Hornyak, Kenneth Striegler and B.J. Klein.  Visitation with the family will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday and from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Beckmann Funeral Home.  On Tuesday, Mrs. Morris will lie in state at Trinity Lutheran Church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30.

 

Memorials in her honor may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Lion’s Club Camp for Children.

 

 

Col. Talmadge A. Wilson

 

     T. A. (Bud) Wilson passed away on Saturday April 12, 2008 at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio at the age of 81. He is survived by son Richard Wilson; and 4 grandchildren Laura Beth Wilson, Casey Allen Wilson, Clint Wilson and Allie Wilson; daughters-in-law Shirley and Jill.

He is preceded in death by his wife Maxine Wilson and son Talmadge Wilson.

     Col. Wilson retired to Fredericksburg in 1975 after 30 years in the United States Air Force. Then moved to Air Force Village in San Antonio in the late 90’s. During his service he saw action in WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam as a Command Pilot and in numerous command positions. His awards of achievement include the legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross with clusters, the Bronze Star for Valor and others. Col. Wilson attended the University of Texas and received his Bachelors and Masters of Science degrees from the Air Force Institute of Technology at Dayton Ohio.

    Since retirement he has been active in the Hill Country Fruit Council and the Fredericksburg Lion’s Club.

     Graveside services will be on Thursday April 17, 2008 in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:15 a.m. with full military honors.

 

 

 

Harvey Solbrig

 

Mr. Harvey Solbrig passed away Thursday April 10, 2008 at the Knopp’s Assisted Living Center at the age of 86. Born on February 21, 1922 to Kurt and Ferna Solbrig in Gillespie County. He married Ida Rischner Klein in November 1971. Harvey is survived by his step children Kenneth Klein and wife Audra of Harper, Virginia Lehne (Lane) and husband Franklin of Fredericksburg; Brothers Wolney Solbrig and wife Arlene of Fredericksburg, Clinton Solbrig and wife Ada of Amarillo; Sister Ruby Klein and her husband Kermit of San Antonio; Sisters-in-law Clifteen Solbrig and Helga Solbrig; Martha Holms and husband Darrel of Harper, Theresa Hartman of Harper and Maggie Litzinger of San Antonio four step grandchildren and 8 great step grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Solbrig is preceded in death by his wife Ida Klein Solbrig  nee Rischner, his Parents Kurt and Ferna Solbrig, Brothers Elgin Solbrig, Leroy Solbrig,Dayton Solbrig; Sister Mrs. Evelyn Norwood Looney.

Services for Mr. Solbrig will be Saturday April 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church with interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be on Friday April 11, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Memorials for Mr.  Solbrig may be made to Harper Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, Zion Lutheran Church or Charity of Choice.

 

Dorothy Moldenhauer

 

Dorothy Moldenhauer, of Fredericksburg, passed away in a Kerrville care facility on Thursday, April 3, at the age of 84.   She was born near Willow City on July 24, 1923 to Herman Delz and Olga Schmidt Delz.  On November 11, 1939 she married Lee Moldenhauer in San Antonio.  Their marriage was blessed with 3 children.  Dorothy was a beautician for many years and a devoted wife and mother.  Every year she raised a huge garden and canned most of it.  She also enjoyed sharing the bounty of her garden with family and friends.  She loved to hunt and fish and she also enjoyed bowling.  Along with her husband Lee, she was active in the Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.  While she had an independent streak, Dorothy was a very loving and caring grandmother and great-grandmother.  She really enjoyed spending time with her family.  

 

Dorothy is survived by her children Curtis Moldenhauer and wife Iris Anne of Plano, J.D. Moldenhauer of Fredericksburg and Carol Reeh and husband Robbie of Harper  She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Lori Lanpher, Lenn Moldenhauer, Brent Moldenhauer, Brooke Arldt, Wade Reeh and 9 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband Lee Moldenhauer in 1995.  She was also preceded in death by her sisters and brothers Lucille Wilson, Ava Marie Clark, Ruby Thompson, James Delz and Floyd Delz. 

 

Funeral services for Dorothy Moldenhauer will be held on Saturday, April 5, at 2:00 p.m. in the Beckmann Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Vitek officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be Jay Clark, Chris Clark, Brent Moldenhauer, Wade Reeh, Lenn Moldenhauer and Christ Arldt.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department.  Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. On Saturday Mrs. Moldenhauer will lie in state at the funeral home from 7 a.m. till 2p.m.

Andrew H. Langehennig

 

Mr. Andrew H. Langehennig passed away on Wednesday April 2, 2008 in Hill Country Memorial Hospital at the age of 94. Born December 2, 1913 to Albert Langehennig and Regina Langehennig nee Thiele in Gillespie County.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Kay Burgess and her husband Rick of Fredericksburg and a son, Terry Don Langehennig and his wife Alice of Canyon, Texas.

Grandchildren Sheri Craft and her husband Kevin, Cary Burgess, Marissa Fisher and her husband Byron, Brent Burgess, Matthew Langehennig, Stefani Langehennig, Michelle Langehennig and 16 great grandchildren. Step grandchildren are Angela McClellan, Thomas Pell and Jason Pell.  2 brothers, Walton Langehennig of San Antonio and Kermit Langehennig of Lexington, Texas.  2 sister-in-laws, Irene Langehennig of Katy, and Beatrice Langehennig of Mason. Mr. Langehennig is also survived by his long time friend, Ms. Lorene Crenwelge of Fredericksburg. 

Andrew is preceded in death by his wife Mildred A. Langehennig nee Ransleben, parents Albert and Regina Langehennig, son Travis Langehennig, Brothers Oliver and Victor Langehennig.

Pallbearers will be Cary Burgess, Brent Burgess, Byron Fisher, Matthew Langehennig, Kevin Craft and David Langehennig. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Langerhans, Harvey Land, Lester Crenwelge, Milton Crenwelge and Jim Urquhart. 

Services will be held on Saturday, April 5th at 11:00 am at the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with interment at Der Stadt Friedhof cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Beckmann Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5:00 until 8:00pm.  Mr. Langehenning will lie in state on Saturday at Beckmann Funeral Home from 7:00am until 9:00am and then at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church from 10:00am until 11:00am. 

Memorials may be sent to the Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department or the charity of one’s choice.

 

Virgil Seth Dodson

 

 

Virgil S. Dodson peacefully made his transition at Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital on the morning of March 28, 2008. He was a 25 year resident of Harper, Texas, where along with his wife Linda ran the Well Being Ranch. Virgil leaves his wife along with many friends throughout the Hill Country. He remained a friend of Bill W. for over 34 years.

 

A Memorial Celebration will be held on April 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at 2211 Bandera Hwy in Kerrville Texas.

Memorials may be made in Virgil’s name to the Kathleen C. Cailloux Humane Society of Kerrville or to the Charity of Your Choice.

 

 

Modelle Howe

 

Modelle Howe, of Harper, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, at the age of 87.  Mrs. Howe is survived by her children Lisa Kirk and husband Jim of Round Rock, Worth Howe and wife Nancy of Los Angeles, California, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. 

Mrs. Model Lived in Harper from 1941-42 then from 1946-50 she moved back in 1985 and lived there until 1999 when she moved to Round Rock to be closer to her daughter. She worked for several School Districts including Menard and Sweetwater. Modelle loved to shop, play bridge and take care of her family. She also was a member of the Eastern Star and an active member of the First Baptist Church.

Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, at the First Baptist Church in Harper.  Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m.   Interment will be in the Harper City Cemetery.

 

Bertha Clara Mary Grobe

 

Bertha Clara Mary Grobe nee Heiner of Fredericksburg passed away on Sunday March 23, 2008 in the Knopp Healthcare & Rehab Center at the age of 105. Mrs. Grobe is survived by her Daughter Ruth Bertha Martha Lich of Comfort, Grandchildren Beverly Lich Meier and husband Dennis of Comfort, Karen Kordzik and husband Terry of Kerrville, Great- Grandchildren; Renee Meier McNeil and husband Michael of Comfort, Derek Meier and wife Niessa of Comfort, Nikkala and Kagney Kordzik of Kerrville; Great-great grandchildren Alanna, Larkin and Gavin McNeil;Drake Eleanor and Leon Meier All of Comfort. Brothers; Emil Heiner and wife Estella of Fredericksburg and Herman Heiner also of Fredericksburg.

She is preceded in death by her Husband Arthur Grobe, Grandson Patrick Anthony Lich,  son-in-law Elmer Elgin Lich, Sister Minna Heiner who died in infancy, Brothers Rudolf Heiner, Wesley Heiner, Jacob Heiner and Alvin Heiner.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Meier, Terry Kordzik, Derek Meier, Michael McNeil, Raymond Hohmann and Harry Hohenberger.

Services for Mrs. Grobe will be Wednesday March 26, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday March 25, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Beckmann Funeral Home.

Calvin C. Weiser

 

 

Calvin C. Weiser, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, at the age of 87.  Mr. Weiser is survived by his daughter Claudia Snell and husband David of Plano, 2 sisters Aleene Wagner and Bernice Frosch both of Lincoln and many nieces and nephews including John Conway of Cambrdige, Kansas and Evelyn Peese of Fredericksburg.  Funeral services For Calvin Weiser will be held on Friday, March 21, at 10:00 a.m. in the Beckmann Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Klier Engel

 

Mrs. Elizabeth Klier Engel, prominent resident of Luckenbach and former co-owner of Engel’s Store, passed away on Sunday, March 16, in Hill Country Memorial Hospital at the age 97 years, 11 months and 4 days.

 

“Elise” was born April 12, 1910 to Clara (nee Ottmers) and Arthur Klier at Cave Creek.  She was baptized (June 12, 1910 by Rev. L.D. Billnitz) and confirmed (April 13, 1924 by Rev. William Flachmeier)  at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Cave Creek.  She attended school in Cave Creek and Fredericksburg.  On February 23, 1933 she married Benno Engel at Bethany Lutheran Church.  Rev. Theo Haag officiated.  Their marriage was blessed by six children.  They made their home at Luckenbach where Benno served as postmaster and Elizabeth served as assistant postmaster. They co-owned and later owned Engel’s Store and Dance Hall until 1972.

 

“Elise” never lost her youthful spirit.  Even at the age of 97 she was still of clear mind and never showed her age.  She loved to have company and her home was always a meeting place for friends and family.  “Elise” loved to quilt and sew and garden.  She was also a great cook, making wonderful homemade bread and cinnamon rolls along with koch kase and homemade butter.

 

Mrs. Engel is survived by her 2 sons John Curtis Engel, of Luckenbach and Benno Engel and wife Jan of New Braunfels, 3 daughters, Della Mae Pohler and husband Milton of San Antonio, Rose Patton of Mineral Wells and JoNell Lamothe and husband Richard of Seabrook, a daughter-in-law Peggy Engel of San Antonio, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Benno, her two brothers Elgin and Clayton Klier, a son James Engel and a great-granddaughter Kelsey Pohler.

 

Funeral services for Elizabeth Engel will be held on Wednesday, March 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg.  Interment will follow in Der Stadt Friedhof.  Serving as pallbearers will be her six grandsons Steven Pohler, Richard Engel, Russell Patton, Randall Patton, Ryan Lamothe and Justin Lamothe.  Her granddaughters Sharon Braly and Ashley Engel will serve as honorary pallbearers.  Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home.  On Wednesday Mrs. Engel will lie in state at Beckmann funeral home from 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church

 

Memorials in her honor may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, Hill Country Memorial Hospital or to the charity of one’s choice.

Charles Vintress Pue

 

Charles Vintress Pue of Fredericksburg passed away Friday March 7, 2008 in the Knopp Healthcare and Rehab Center at the age of 96.

Charles was born on November 8, 1911 to Judge Arthur Vintress Pue and Flossie Octavia de-Montell, on the Pue ranch which was established in 1866 on the Hirchs Creek north of Bandera by his Great Grandfather Judge A.V. Pue. His parents are both from pioneer families of Bandera County his Great grandfather Charles de-Montell Sr. was one of the founders of Bandera. Charles Graduated from the Medina High School and then went into carpentry. He learned to build and design homes to sell which lead to his career as a contractor.

Charles married his first wife Bessie Marie Walston on July 25, 1943. After her passing he married Emma K. Barth on September 11, 1976.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Flossie Pue, two Sisters and two Brothers.

 Charles is survived by his loving wife Emma Pue of Fredericksburg, Sister-in-law Dorothy Pue of San Antonio, Numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Mr. Pue will be Monday March 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation with the family will be from 4:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. on Sunday March 9, 2008 in the Beckmann Funeral Home. Charles Pue will lie in State from 7:00a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Monday in the Chapel of the Beckmann Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Grapetown Cemetery.

 

Loretta Croxton

 

Loretta Croxton, of Kerrville, passed away at Hill Country Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg on Tuesday, March 4, at the age of 78.  Mrs. Croxton is survived by 4 sons Benjamin Croxton and wife Judith of St. Petersburg, Florida, Harold Croxton and wife Alice of Schertz, James Croxton and wife Cynthia of Kerrville, Donald Croxton and wife Mary Frances of Alvin, 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

 

At this time there are no services scheduled.  A memorial service in her honor will be held at a later date.

 

Louis L. Evans

 

Louis Levi (Bud) Evans Jr., age 90, of Austin, passed away on February 28, 2008 at the Christopher House in Austin, Texas.

Bud was born on August 15, 1917 in Casper Wyoming.  He was raised on the family ranch West of Eckert TX and attended Eckert Nebo school.  He left home at 16 and worked on various ranches including the Bar O Ranch near Llano.  Always a horseman, his favorite horse was Monte Carlo which he raised on a bottle.  He enlisted for active duty with the U.S. Army in 1941 and was a member of the 124th Cavalry Remount Outfit.  He served in The China Burma India Theater during WWII as a T/Sgt.  He was a horse shoeing instructor and taught the Chinese how to shoe horses and mules.  He also broke and trained horses from New Zealand and Australia.  After the war he moved to Austin where he became a Plumber and continued shoeing horses.  He shod his last horse in 1973.  At age 79 he retired from Plumbing and became a talented artist making patio tables out of tile.  He lived a fulfilling and colorful life and was loved and admired by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Tanya and John Mulkern of Austin, step-son and wife Ron and Cathy Rossberg of Lockhart, Tx., three brothers and their wives, Grady and Sherry Evans of Heyburn, Idaho, Marlin and Barbara Evans of Heyburn, Idaho, Lester and Fran Evans of San Antonio, Texas. Numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his daughter Terri Gayle Evans of Austin, three sisters and one brother.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday March 4, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Beckmann Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2008, 1:00 p.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, TX.  Interment to follow to Eckert Cemetery in Willow City, TX. Reception after interment at Beckmann Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions made in Louis (Bud's) memory to Hospice of Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Road, Suite 100, Austin, Tx. 78759-8660.

 

Mary Irene Hopf Dittmar

 

   Mary Irene Hopf Dittmar passed away peacefully on February 25, 2008, in Knopp Nursing and Rehab Center in Fredericksburg, Texas, at the age of 87. She was born in Gillespie County on April 6, 1920, to Valentine Hopf and Ella Grosenbacher Hopf of pioneer German Hill Country families. She was the first 4-H Gold Star girl in Gillespie County and graduated from Harper High School as Valedictorian and attended The University of Texas at Austin. She taught several grades in the Tivydale country school. She married Robert O. Dittmar on February 28, 1942, and they were married 55 years until his death in 1997. She was a lifelong resident of the Harper community and was active in community affairs, such as the Band Boosters, Harper Athletic Boosters, PTA, the Texas Sheep & Goat Raisers Auxiliary, St. James Lutheran Church in Harper, and later Zion Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg. Irene was preceded in death by infant twin siblings, her parents, brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Ruby Hopf. She is survived by three children Karen Dittmar Haschke of Austin, Dr. Robert O. Dittmar, II and wife Bernadine of Kerrville, Jerry Dittmar and wife Marie of San Antonio, and six grandchildren, Brian Haschke and wife Christina of Austin, Dr. Erika Haschke Pickens and husband Douglas of Dallas, Trey Dittmar and wife Rebecca of College Station, Whitney Dittmar of Kerrville, Justin and Travis Dittmar of San Antonio, and two great-granddaughters, Emma and Jordan Haschke of Austin, and longtime ranch employee, Felipe Ceballos. The family gives special thanks to the caregivers of the Knopp Healthcare facilities.

   Visitation will be at Beckmann Funeral Home in Fredericksburg on Tuesday, February 26, 5-8 pm.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at 2 pm at Zion Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Palmer Hohenberger

 

            Palmer Hohenberger of Fredericksburg passed away Thursday February 21, 2008 at 9:45p.m. in the Hill Country Memorial Hospital at the age of 87. Mr. Hohenberger is survived by his wife Florence Hohenberger, Children Harry Hohenberger of Fredericksburg, Daughter Cynthia Engel and her husband Armin Jr. of Fredericksburg, Grandchildren; Julie Engel and husband Mike Bryant, Armin John Engel and wife Kay, Margaret Engel and husband Mike Forrest, Paul Engel and wife Wendy, Diane Thomas and husband Steve, and Christine Engel; Sister Vera Kallenberg of Fredericksburg; Brother Teddy Hohenberger of Fredericksburg and 7 great grandchildren.

    Palmer is preceded in death by his parents Benno and Hertha Hohenberger; son Michael Hohenberger; Sister-in-law Toodie Hohenberger Brother-in-law Kurt Kallenberg.

     Born and raised in the Grapetown Community. Palmer is a WWII veteran serving in Service Company 739th Tank Battalion seeing battle action in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe earning an American Theater Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal and a WWII Victory Medal  , a lifetime member of the Grapetown Shooting Club, Owner of Hohenberger Real Estate for many years. From 1956 until 1964 Palmer and Florence operated a dairy off of Knopp School road. They also were Truck farmers well known for their cantaloupe and watermelons. A member of the Comfort Farmers market, an avid Fisherman, hunter and reader. Palmer was a Local Historian and Philosopher and poet.

 

 A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday March 1, 2008 in the Grapetown Hall at 2:00 p.m.

Virginia Lovell

 

 

Virginia Lovell of Fredericksburg Passed away Saturday February 16th at the age of 86. She is survived by her son Gary Lovell and his wife Ann of The Villages in Florida, and a Daughter Lacy Seybold and her husband Craig if Austin Texas; Sister Ruth McCarthy of San Antonio. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Graveside services for Mrs. Lovell will be Wednesday February 20, 2008 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio at 2p.m. with Pastor John Hierholzer officiating. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday February 19 from 5p.m. to 7p.m.

 

James Turrentine

 

 

James Turrentine formerly of Fredericksburg passed away Friday February 15th at the age of 83In the Comanche County Medical Center. Mr. Turrentine is survived by his wife Reba; Sons Jerry Turrentine and wife Bonnie of Willow City, Michael Turrentine of Fredericksburg, daughters Jenny Shawn and husband Gary of Austin, Erica wanner and her husband Troy of San Marcos, Wanda Mireles and her husband Secudino of Comanche Texas, Tanya Turrentine of San Marcos, Ida Mendez of San Marcos, A brother-in-law Harvey Gill, 6 grandchildren Jennifer Turrentine, Wayne Turrentine, Aja De Leon, Sable De Leon, Aiden Wanner, Emerson Wanner; and 1 great grandson Sterling Turrentine.

Services for Mr. Turrentine will be Tuesday February 19, 2008 at 2:00p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be Monday February 18, 2008 from 4-7p.m.

 

 

Dr. John “Jack” David Chase

 

Dr. John “Jack” David Chase, MD, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Thursday, February 14, at the age of 87.  Dr. Chase was born on September 24, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan to Clyde H. Chase, MD and Bonnie Chase.  He graduated from Wabash College in 1942 and Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in 1945. He  served 2 years in the Navy and 5 years in the Army Reserve Medical Corps.  Dr. Chase married Margaret J. Chamberlain on July 25, 1942 and she passed away in 1983.  He married Edwarda I. Walther on March 15, 1985 and she passed away in 1999.

 

“Jack” was a physician with the Veteran’s Administration from 1952 until his retirement in 1978.  Among his assignments: served as Chief of Staff, VA Hospital, Houston; Director, VA Hospital, Oklahoma City; Associate Chief Medical Director (Professional Services); Associate Chief Medical Director (Academic Affairs); and Chief Medical Director of the Veterans Administration from 1974 to 1978.  During his VA career, Dr. Chase was associated with many medical schools including the University of Oregon, Baylor and the University of Oklahoma.  He was Dean of the University of Washington Medical School from 1981 to 1982 and then Dean Emeritus. 

 

Dr. Chase was a member of the National Advisory Council, Heart and Lung Institute; National Library of Medicine; Board of Governors, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology; Fellow, American College of Physicians; Fellow, American College of Chest Physicians; and the Academy of Sciences-Institute of Medicine.

 

In 1992, AMSUS, the society of federal health agencies, approved the “John D. Chase Award for Physician Executive Excellence”, which is presented annually to a senior physician who has exhibited sustained outstanding performance and leadership in an executive position.  The award is presented to a physician in the Army, Navy, Air Force, U.S. Public Health Service, or Department of Veterans Affairs to recognize contributions and exemplary accomplishments in Federal healthcare management.  Criteria for nomination include a narrative outlining the nominee’s “sustained excellence in an executive leadership role and demonstrated contributions and dedication in helping accomplish the mission of the health agency.”

 

To be closer to his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Chase moved from Washington state and Arizona to Fredericksburg in 2001.  “Jack” moved from his home to Heritage Place in 2006.  He volunteered at the Good Samaritan Center and ushered at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.  A licensed pilot, he was active in the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 1088, and at the age of 82 built and flew a RANS S-7S aircraft.  Other life-long interests included golf and flying radio controlled model aircraft. 

 

Dr. Chase is survived by his son  Robert W. Chase and wife Judith of Fredericksburg, 2 grandsons Tyler W. Chase of Wichita, Kansas and Justin W. Chase of Littleton, Colorado, 3 great-grandsons Connor, Jack and Cooper and a brother Robert H. Chase of Frankfort, Michigan. 

 

Funeral services for Dr. Chase will be held graveside at the Greenwood Cemetery on Saturday, February 23, at 11:00 a.m. with military honors. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:30 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.  After the memorial service a reception will be held in the church Parish Hall.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Center, Hill Country Memorial Hospice, the Boy Scouts of America or to the charity of one’s choice.

 

Cora Dearing

 

Cora Dearing of Fredericksburg passed away on Tuesday January 29, 2008 in the Knopp Nursing Home at the age of 92. Mrs. Dearing is survived by three sons and a daughter. Willard Dearing and his wife Nancy of Fredericksburg TX, Milburn Dearing and his wife Laverne of Boerne TX,  Delbert Dearing and his wife Kaye Lynn of Merkel TX, Carolyn Carson of Brady; Sister Wanda Ahrens; Brother Ruben W. Crenwelge and his wife Elizabeth; Sister-in-Law Flora Crenwelge; Grandchildren, Cheryl Regmund Craig Dearing, Niki Cockerham, Holt Carson, Chad Carson, Darrell Dearing, Dennis Dearing, Denise Dearing, Dannette Schweers, Lacey Dearing; Great Grandchildren, Clinton and Wesley Regmund, McKenzie , Jake & Kylie Cockerham, Logan, Mica & Jenna Carson, Jody & Will Carson, Frank & Elizabeth Anne Schweers, Jakob, ShyAnn, Conner & MattiLynne Dearing.

Services for Mrs. Dearing will be Friday February 1, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church with interment to follow at Der Stadt Friedhof.

Visitation with the Family will be Thursday from 4p.m. to 7 p.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home.

Esther Mary Kunz

 

Esther Mary Kunz, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Sunday, January 27, at the age of 86.  Esther was born on December 23, 1921 in Orange Grove, Texas to Bruno Arlitt and Emma Louise Roth.  On October 18, 1947 she married Louis August Kunz Jr. in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.  Their marriage was blessed with 3 children. For many years they made their home in San Antonio before returning to Fredericksburg.  Through the years she worked at Hormel Packaging in San Antonio, SK Sewing in Fredericksburg  and after her kids were grown she operated a child care service out of her home.  Esther loved being around children.  She also enjoyed fishing, quilting with the ladies at church, doing handwork and spending time in her garden.  Esther was a long-time member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.

 

Esther is survived by 2 daughters Deborah Ann Lea and husband Ned of San Antonio and Jane Lynn Payne of Fredericksburg, a son Gary Louis Kunz  and wife Cindy of Fredericksburg, 5 grandchildren Justin Kunz, Russell Meurer, Joel Meurer, William Meurer, Amy Payne and 3 great-grandchildren Vladimir Slastnoy, Anthony Meurer and Katelyn Meurer.  She is also survived by 3 sisters, Edna Pape and husband Harold, Victoria Eckhardt and Lillie Mae Eisner and husband Marshall all of Fredericksburg and a brother Victor Arlitt and wife Dot of Brenham.  Esther was preceded in death by her husband Louis August Kunz Jr.,  a brother Henry August Arlitt, and a son-in-law Bobby Dale Payne.

 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 30, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with Rev. Bobby Vitek officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Kunz, Russel Meurer, Joel Meurer, William Meurer, George Post and Vernon Arlitt.  Honorary pallbearers will be Amy Payne, Vladimir Slastnoy, Anthony Meurer and Katelyn Meurer.  Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home.  On Wednesday, Mrs. Kunz will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.

Edwin Kott of Fredericksburg passed away Friday January 25, 2008 in a Kerrville Nursing Home at the age of 92. Graveside  services For Mr. Kott will be on Thursday January 31, 2008 at 11:30 am with full military honors.

 

 

Olivia, Mrs. Harvey Moellering Sr.

 

Olivia, Mrs. Harvey Moellering Sr., passed away on Wednesday, January 23, at the age of 91.  Olivia was born on the family farm in Gillespie County on November 23, 1916 to Felix Eckhardt and Erna Behrends Eckhardt.  She attended first grade at the Rocky Hill School and then attended Knopp School after that.  She was baptized and confirmed at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church and on November 29, 1934 she married Harvey Moellering in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.  Their marriage was blessed with 3 sons.  Olivia was a hard working woman who provided much help to her husband.  She could frequently be found helping Harvey by driving the tractor, riding the combine (bagging and tying bags of grain), picking up pecans or doing whatever else needed to be done.  Olivia was a good cook and could cook wild turkey and venison better than just about anybody else.  In earlier years Olivia and Harvey enjoyed dancing and in the last few years Olivia enjoyed playing bingo at the nursing home.  She was also an avid “scrap booker”.  Olivia was preceded in death by her husband Harvey Moellering Sr., 2 sisters, Paula, Mrs. Alfred Wunderlich, Nora, Mrs. Gilbert Gold, a brother Arno Eckhardt and a daughter-in-law Joylene Moellering and a granddaughter Karissa.

 

Mrs. Moellering is survived by 3 sons: Alton Moellering and fiancée’ Dorothy  Klaerner of Fredericksburg, Daniel Moellering of Fredericksburg and fiancée’ Jean Duffy of California and Harvey Moellering Jr. and wife Debbie of Fredericksburg.  She is also survived by 2 grandsons Doyle and Dale Moellering, 6 great-grandchildren, Paul, Mark, Seth, Luke, Adam and Anna Moellering, 2 step-great-grandchildren Emma and Daniel Cruttenden and a sister, Irene, Mrs. Leroy Land of Fredericksburg.

 

Funeral services for Olivia Moellering will be held on Saturday, January 26, at 2:00 p.m. in the Beckmann Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Priem officiating.  Interment will follow in Der Stadt Friedhof.  Serving as pallbearers will be Dale Moellering, Doyle Moellering, Barry Beyer, Bruce Ottmers, Richard Lindley, Dayton Eckhardt, Dayton Crenwelge and Steve Juenke. Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home.

George L. Klein Sr.

 

George L. Klein Sr., of Fredericksburg, passed away on Monday, January 14, at the age of 62.  George was born in Fredericksburg on October 21, 1945 to Arthur William Klein and Vera M. Kunz Klein.  He grew up on a ranch near Boerne and graduated from Boerne High School in 1964 where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He married Alice Schuchardt on May 10, 1969 at St. John Lutheran in Boerne.  George was a big Boerne Greyhound fan.  He kept the stats for the football team, ran the clock and kept the book for the basketball team and helped with the track meets.  He loved to play softball and was a long-time member of Boerne Lone star softball team.  George also loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandkids, as well as hunting and fishing.

 

George started in banking with Boerne State Bank in 1968 where he worked all the way up to Sr. Vice President of Operations.  He then worked for the National Bank of Commerce in Boerne and then with Security State Bank in Boerne and Bulverde before being transferred to Fredericksburg in 1998.  While with Security State Bank he served as Vice President.  George was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Boerne and then transferred his membership to Christ Lutheran in Cherry Spring after moving to Fredericksburg.

 

Mr. Klein is survived by his wife Alice Klein of Fredericksburg, 2 sons George L. Klein Jr. and wife Marissa of Boerne and Roy Arthur Klein and wife Stephanie of Boerne and 6 grandchildren: Mallory, Logan, Corey, Andrew, Caleb and Nolan.  He is also survived by 2 sisters Edna Fritz of Fredericksburg and Bernice Rusche of Grand Prairie.  He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister Patricia Colbath. 

 

Funeral services for George Klein will be held on Thursday, January 17, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Boerne.  Interment will follow in the Boerne City Cemetery.

 

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home in Fredericksburg.  Mr. Klein will lie in instate from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Beckmann Funeral Home.  On Thursday, Mr. Klein will lie in state until 10:00 a.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Boerne.

Waldemar F. Kroll

 

Waldemar  F. Kroll, of Harper, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, at the age of 91.  He was born at the family ranch near Harper on February 27, 1916 to Frank Kroll and Ilda Lang Kroll.  He graduated from Harper High School and from business School in San Antonio.  On August 23, 1941 he married Josephine Weigend in Monterey Mexico.  They enjoyed over 66 years together.  Waldemar ranched in Gillespie County during his whole life and was a strong proponent of registered Angora goats and Delaine sheep.  During the last 20 years he competed in numerous Angora goat shows winning awards with fine quality mohair.  He was a member of the Texas Angora Goat Raisers Association, serving on some of their committees.  Waldemar was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Harper and one of the first directors of the Harper Wildlife Management Association.

 

Mr. Kroll is survived by his wife Josephine Kroll of Harper, a son  Erlink Kroll and wife Pat of Fredericksburg and a sister Luella Kroll Danielson of Mesa, Arizona.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Helena Kroll Perchard.  Funeral services for Waldemar Kroll were held on Saturday, January 12, at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Harper with Rev. Will Bigott officiating.  Interment followed in the Harper City Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Brent Strackbein, Al Zabroky, Charles Loeffler, Linver Kroll, Stacey Strackbein and John Harold Dittmar.

 

Memorials in honor of Mr. Kroll maybe made to the American Cancer Society or to the Harper Volunteer Fire Department or Charity of your choice.

 

Ruth “Lula” Rogers

 

Ruth “Lula” Rogers of Fredericksburg passed away Tuesday January 8, 2008 in the Hill Country Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Rogers is survived by her son Vic Rogers and his wife Candy of Austin, daughters Letitia Rogers and her husband Michael Payne of Fredericksburg, Penny Rogers of Santa Fe New Mexico. Grandchildren; Wynden, Colt, John David and his fiancée Desiree Ryman, Sister Bea Jorns of Houston.

Graveside service and interment will be Thursday January 10, 2008 at 4 pm in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Leona Hanna

 

Mrs. Leona Hanna of Fredericksburg passed away Friday January 4, 2008 in the Knopp Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 105. Mrs. Hanna is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Per her wishes Mrs. Hanna will be cremated and her ashes buried in Greenwood Cemetery in San Diego California on a later date.

 

Clarence Mangum

 

Mr. Clarence Mangum, of Fredericksburg passed away at a local care facility on Wednesday December 26, at the age of 80. Mr. Mangum is survived by a son Mike Mangum and his wife Lisa of Austin and a daughter Cathy Mangum of Port Aransas.

Graveside service will be on Friday January 4, 2008 for the interment of his cremated remains in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:15p.m.

 

 

Elenora Leyendecker Klein

 

Elenora Leyendecker Klein of Fredericksburg Passed away Wednesday December 19 at the age of 86 in the Tri Star Care Center. Elenora is survived by 2 sons and a daughter, Danny and Nancy Leyendecker of Harper TX, Tommy and Paulette Leyendecker of Austin TX, Sandy and Daryl Tatum of Windsor CO. Grandchildren Brain and Tracey Leyendecker, Katie Barteau, Erin and Steve Schaper, Will tatum, Eric Leyendecker, Kyle Leyendecker, Trey and Mercy Tatum, Kelly and Louis Dorado. Great grandchildren, Brianna and Kayden Leyendecker, Chase and Charlie Barteau, Kaitland and Logan Schaper, Christian Leyendecker and Daniel Dorado.

Elenora Graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1939.  Early in her marriage to Harold Leyendecker, she helped in his butcher shop business in Kerrville.  In addition to being a full-time mother and homemaker, she was a lifelong seamstress; sewing for weddings, dance recitals and the general public in the 1950s and 1960s.  She worked for Mooney Aircraft in the upholstery department in the late 1960s.  In the 1970s, she began sewing custom draperies for the public until her full retirement in the late 1990s. 

 

Services for Elenora Leyendecker Klein will be Thursday December 27th in Bethany Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Der Stadt Friedhof.

Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday December 26th from 5:00p.m. til 7:00 p.m. in Beckmann Funeral Home.
